Of JellyBeans and Oldsmobiles, Torture Bills and Voting Things

Friday, September 29th, 2006

My car guy at the Restaurant, a part-time cook, gave me a lead on some new cars. His stepdad runs an auto salvage/garage, and is know about town as being scrupulously honest, and had some cars he’d repaired for sale. One of these cars was a 1994 Oldsmobile Delta 88, in good shape, for $1300.00. [...]

Jesus on a Dog’s Ass?

Sunday, September 24th, 2006

First, someone please, for the love of all that is good and right in the world, tell me that this is a freakin’ joke:
Angus MacDougall is a three-year-old terrier mix that has recently been blessed with the revered and holy image of Jesus Christ on his hindquarters. Is this manifestation of The Prince of Peace [...]

Eulogy for a JellyBean

Saturday, September 23rd, 2006

About seven years ago, shortly after leaving the Dumbass Ex, I scraped together all of the US Savings Bonds I’d been given for birthdays and holidays over the years, cashed them in, and purchased the JellyBean. The JellyBean is a ‘93 Ford Festiva, marginally white in between the gaping rust holes, largely held together by [...]

Five Years of Fear

Monday, September 11th, 2006

Five years — that’s the wood and/or silverware anniversary, I believe. Possibly wooden silverware, not sure. So, let’s see. Five years since the towers were blown down by a pack of really ambitious Saudi Arabian terrorists, belonging to Al Quieda, led by Osama bin Ladin. What have we accomplished?
Well, we had a half-assed war in [...]

Bad ABC! Bad Disney! Bad!

Sunday, September 10th, 2006

So, ABC’s doing this miniseries, The Path to 9/11. They’re calling it a “docudrama”. I’m calling it “bullshit”. That’s because the miniseries is, according to news sources, actors who worked on it, specialists called in for it, and several of the people besmirched by the miniseries, totally biased and full of wild inaccuracies. It is, [...]

Wednesday Riddles & A Short Book Review

Wednesday, September 6th, 2006

I recently read Dan Brown’s first book, Angels and Demons, and it was pretty decent. I liked The Da Vinci code better, but Angels and Demons was good, too. It was fast-paced, if a bit heavy-handed.
The book was basically Science vs. God, a theme which Dan Brown beats us over the head with throughout the [...]

RIP, Steve Irwin

Monday, September 4th, 2006

‘Crocodile Hunter’ Irwin Killed by Stingray — Sept. 4, 2006 — Steve Irwin, the hugely popular Australian television personality and conservationist known as the “Crocodile Hunter,” was killed Monday by a stingray while filming off the Great Barrier Reef. He was 44.
That’s just too damn bad. I liked the Crocodile Hunter.

Bitching and Moaning

Sunday, September 3rd, 2006

I’m out of coffee. As you might imagine, I’m less than amused with that.
This crappy little sports car, some beat-up T-Bird or something, drives up and down the road in front of my house several times a day. I swear, every time it drives by, it’s blasting “Crazy Bitch“. I like the song — or [...]
